How to Care for and Store Your Pool Floats
Make your floats last for many summers
A little care keeps pool floats and inflatables in great shape, season after season — saving money and waste. Here’s how to look after them.
Rinse after every use
Pool chemicals (chlorine), salt, sunscreen, and dirt all wear down floats over time. Rinse them with clean fresh water after each use to keep them in good condition.
Dry thoroughly before storing
Storing a damp float invites mould and mildew. Dry it completely — inside and out — before deflating and packing it away. Wipe off any moisture.
Keep out of harsh sun when not in use
India’s strong sun fades and weakens inflatables over time. Don’t leave floats baking in the sun all day; store them in the shade or indoors between uses.
Deflate gently and correctly
Open the valve fully and gently press out the air — don’t force or fold roughly while inflated, which strains the seams. Let it deflate naturally.
Fold and store neatly
- Once dry and deflated, fold loosely (avoid sharp creases that crack the material).
- Store in a cool, dry place away from sharp objects.
- Keep away from heat sources that can damage the material.
Repair small holes promptly
A small puncture doesn’t mean the end. Use a repair patch (many floats include one) to fix leaks — clean and dry the area, apply the patch, and let it set fully before use.
Inflate correctly
Don’t over-inflate — it stresses the seams, especially in the heat when air expands. Inflate firmly but not rock-hard, and use a pump rather than over-stretching by mouth.
Check before each season
At the start of summer, check floats for leaks, weak seams, and wear before letting children use them. Replace any that are damaged beyond repair.
